After more than 11 years of development, Flightgear 1.0 has arrived. It was one of the first major Free Software games and has become a flight simulator that rivals it's commercial counterparts. There is an astonishing level of detail to much of the game and yet it can still be played on a modest PC.

Audio in Linux is awesome
I’ve got some poorly recorded MP3s of people speaking. I want to try to make them a little easier to hear. In Windows I’d reach for Sound Forge. How about in Linux?

Kubuntu gears up for KDE 4
For my recent review of the latest KDE 4 release candidate, I used an OpenSUSE Live CD image. I've gotten a few e-mails this morning from readers who are looking for an equivalent Live CD based on Kubuntu, so I figured I'd take this opportunity to point out that the Kubuntu KDE 4 RC 2 Live CD was released yesterday. A KDE 4 PPA repository is also available for Kubuntu 7.10 users.

Making your Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop look like MAC OS X Leopard
Even though these days it's possible to run Hackintosh on normal Intel hardware, but still it's not stable and well there are hardware compatibility issues. So well other alternative to using MAC OS is either to purchase MAC hardware(which would be naturally expensive) and run full fledged MAC OS or you could tweak and customize your Ubuntu desktop to look more like MAC OS X.

Mandriva Flash 2008 First Look
A bootable 4 GB Flash Drive containing a portable version of Mandriva Linux 2008 is now available from Mandriva for 79 EUR ($89) and from Amazon for $94. The general idea is that you can take this little memory stick with you and be able to run Linux from it, do Internet and Office tasks with Firefox, Thunderbird, and OpenOffice, and save your files to the free space on the drive. The Mandriva system can access Windows volumes, and the free space on the flash drive can be read from Windows.

Vista to Ubuntu (100%)
I had enough with eating crap with Vista. My last line of patience warned off when I happened to wait about 5 seconds when changing from one MS Doc file to another and also happened that I was running with time to finish a project report.

Getting Firefox themes on the fly
I love Firefox. Addons (extensions and themes) are the icing on the foxy cake. However, installation always requires a restart. Firefox needs to take a leaf out of Opera's book and install and run without a restart.
However, weep no more with envy at Opera. You can now add and run themes dynamically in Firefox with the Persona extensions. Once installed you can change themes on the fly. These themes are accessed online from Mozilla Labs. Easy and lots of fun. Follow the link above and try them out

Peach an open 3D animation movie project
As a follow-up to the successful project Orange’s “Elephants Dream”, the Blender Foundation will initiate another open movie project. Again a small team of the best 3D artists and developers in the Blender community will be invited to come together to work in Amsterdam from October 2007 until April 2008 on completing a short 3D animation movie. The team members will get a great studio facility and housing in Amsterdam, all travel costs reimbursed, and a fee sufficient to cover all expenses during the period.
The creative concept of “Peach” will be completely different as for “Orange”. This time it’ll be funny and furry!
