Xfe (X File Explorer) is a wonderful, fast and lightweight file manager for Linux built using the FOX toolkit with a customisable interface which can resemble the twin-panel style of Midnight Commander if needed.

Among the commands: Find removed (deleted) files still in use via /proc, On-the-fly unrar movie in .rar archive and play it, does also work on part archives, List programs with open ports and connections, Manually pause/unpause an application (process), etc.

There are camps of people who use different browsers and have long-winded, heated arguments over which one is best. If a tool can make my life simpler, more efficient, and fun, I’m more likely to use it. Firefox 3 fits the bill

During the first year of blogging for Lightweight Linux, I have written about many useful text mode applications. Here is a short overview of the applications I have written about.

Boxee is a much hyped Media Center application, which has many social networking features as well. When i decided to give it a try, i was not expecting anything dramatic as such, being an alpha release. But i have to admit, Boxee Alpha is so damn good.

If I had to name the open source projects with the largest development teams, Gnome and KDE would probably come to mind. After that I read on the LXDE devlopment blog that they rank quite high in the list of active projects on Ohloh.

So. Banshee as a default media player for Karmic, replacing Rhythmbox. You’ve read the analysis on the Internest, you’ve read ill-informed tripe from pretend-journalists, and you’re running in fear of a switch to a “worse” player. Well, it’s time to lay down a little dose of reality for all you naysayers.
