Ubuntu 8.04, codename Hardy Heron, is an LTS, or Long Term Support release. It gets three years of support and updates on the desktop. This release provides the perfect solution for those looking for a stable system that will stand the test of time, as well as provide new features for their computer.

With a bit of a delay, Ubuntu Tweak 0.5 has been finally released. We already posted a quick what's new guide (initially, 0.5 was supposed to be released on 1th of January, so read about most of the new features there), but let's have an even quicker look at what's new:

This release of Ubuntu and the previous one have both been quite interesting. Last one was was an LTS, or long term support, release which was widely criticized for adding too many new features and potentially unstable programs. This one, on the other hand, was not an LTS release, but was considered to be a relatively minor revision.

A second update to Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu 10.04 'Lucid Lynx' LTS (Long Term Support) has been released. The announcement was made by Ubuntu release manager Kate Stewart and iso images are immediately available to download.

Ubuntu 10.10 'Maverick Meerkat' has been released few minutes back as part of 6 months release cycle and it is the first release that follows Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid Lynx' Long Term Support (LTS).

Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 4 was officially released today and is now available for testing. This alpha offers an early look at some of the features that will be included in the final 8.04 release, which is scheduled for April. Codenamed Hardy Heron, Ubuntu 8.04 will be the second long-term support (LTS) release, which means that it will be supported on the desktop for three years and on the server for five years.

The next version of Ubuntu – codename Lucid Lynx – will be the 10.04 release, and is scheduled to be released and declared stable in April. As a long-term support version, coupled with increasing popularity, this is undoubtedly the most important Ubuntu release to date.
