Attendees at Atlanta Linux Fest's breakout session Ubuntucon were among the first to hear straight from Mark Shuttleworth that the popular Linux distribution Ubuntu's next release -- version 10.04 -- will be named Lucid Lynx.

The founder of Linux distie Ubuntu has outlined plans for the platform’s next release (10.04), which is expected to land in April 2010. Mark Shuttleworth said in a video message to attendees of the open source outfit’s UbuCon Atlanta meeting yesterday, that the next version of the distribution carries the code name Lucid Lynx.

Canonical announced that Mark Shuttleworth will be stepping down as CEO in March to be replaced by Canonical COO Jane Silber, reports eWEEK. Meanwhile, the Ubuntu project has released its first alpha of Ubuntu 10.04 ("Lucid Lynx"), which speeds boot-time while kissing the GIMP editor goodbye.

Back in 2007, Canonical launched Ubuntu Live - a one-time conference hosted in Portland, Ore. Since that time I've been looking for another Ubuntu-centric conference where I can meet key sources from across the Ubuntu ecosystem. Fast forward to September 2009, and I think there might finally be a conference that fulfills my Ubuntu educational needs.
It's called Atlanta Linux Fest.
