From my initial experiences with Compiz-Fusion (now a couple of weeks), it is seems more stable than Beryl was and seems to run more smoothly! The new configuration tool is very nice (although lacking any help whatsoever) and effective. And, there are some very nice new features. So, here’s how I installed the latest Compiz Fusion on Ubuntu Feisty.

Just about everyone has seen or used some cool eyecandy Compiz Fusion plugins, but there are also quite a number of useful non-eyecandy plugins for Compiz Fusion.

Now Compiz, Beryl is all over the place and there are massive discussions about it. But I have a few doubts about it. First of all, how do we benchmark an interface, especially its efficiency. I would like to propose a few speculations that could hopefully evolve into some sort of quantifying standards of a desktop interface.

Kiba Dock is a dock, a way to access programs and windows in an interactive manner. Probably the most common example today is the dock in Mac OS X. Kiba Dock is specifically made for Linux operating systems, running under either the GNOME and KDE destkop environments.

Compiz is a compositing window manager that uses 3D graphics acceleration via OpenGL. It provides various new graphical effects and features on any desktop environment, including Gnome and KDE. Compiz Fusion is a collection of plugins and a configuration system for the Compiz compositing window manager. It was created from the remerging of Beryl into Compiz.

This article explains in a general sense the basic troubleshooting of Ubuntu 7.10's compiz 3d Desktop. This tutorial of sorts helps troubleshoot Nvidia cards and Ati cards. I would like to clarify the section "Possible problems for ATI users" this should be abit more clearer on new installs:

Compiz Fusion is a very exciting new advancement in Desktop Effects. Be that as it may, Compiz Fuzion is NOT for Beginners. It is in development now, and is not stable.
