AMD has issued its first-ever hot-fix release for the Linux fglrx driver. This release corrects an aticonfig crash that removes the xorg.conf if you are using the vesa driver.

Introduced in Ubuntu 7.10 was a feature known as BulletProofX, which provides a fail-safe mode that is by default used when the X server fails to properly initialize. In this original implementation, it would default back to using the VESA display driver with 256 colors and then proceed to run the displayconfig-gtk utility.

Glacier Computer has announced a wearable computer that runs Linux and includes built-in WiFi along with GPS and Bluetooth options. The wrist-mounted "Ridgeline W200" has a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, backlit keys, a hot-swappable battery pack, and an electronic compass.

NVIDIA's open-source Linux efforts as it concerns their GPU support have historically been minimal. The xf86-video-nv driver has been around that provides very basic 2D acceleration and a crippled set of features besides that (no proper RandR 1.2/1.3, KMS, power management, etc) while the code has also been obfuscated to try to protect their intellectual property.

Entourage Systems announced the third Android-powered, dual-display e-reader of the week. The Entourage Edge opens up like a book, with one inside panel devoted to a 9.7-inch E Ink display, and the right panel offering a 10.1-inch touchscreen that provides WiFi (or optional 3G) based web browsing and media playback.

Automotive telematics display firm Yazaki North America announced an instrument cluster display based on embedded Linux, designed for reconfigurable dashboard TFT/LCD displays.

DingCheng Electronics has announced a GPS-enabled PC that fits "double DIN" stereo bays. The CarPC 102 has a 4x45W amp, and runs Red Flag Linux or Windows on a 1.1GHz Pentium M processor, with 256MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW drive, and 7-inch WXGA touchscreen display.

Mini-PC manufacturer SD-Omega has announced a Linux-compatible mini-PC that can run two displays simultaneously. The SD631T Dual Display is primarily intended as a car PC that can drive both a GPS display for the driver and an entertainment and Net-surfing display for passengers.
