Google Map Saver is a portable software program that feels more responsive and less complicated to use. The user can enter a location or point of interest and the program will download the available data from Google Maps. Linux isn't very popular on the desktop. It's a far third behind OS X, which is a very far second behind Windows. Most people cite pre-installed operating systems as the reason. But as a student of psychology, I see something most people don't. There's one big factor in why Linux isn't popular on the desktop. Linux is free. I know this sounds like complete dog's bollocks, but hear me out before judging my sanity.

Every time I walk through an Office Depot, Best Buy, or any other store that sells computers and software, I hear sales people telling customers about how they also NEED to buy MS Office with their new computer. I get the impression that most people buy a computer simply to run MS Office thus turning their computer into a glorified typewriter.

Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl. It aims to bring the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text file with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved automatically. Zim handles several types of markup, like headings, bullet lists and of course bold, italic and highlighted.
