The latest release of Sabayon Linux was announced yesterday and being big fans of the desktop, we decided to take it for a test drive and see what has changed.

With this new release, comes a new green based desktop that has been heavily customized. The welcome screen has the option to open a chat room, forums or contribute to the system in other ways and acts as a good introduction to the OS.

There are quite a few distributions out there that are keeping to their word to keep developing a new "updated" version of their distribution and release it every six months, but with that thought, is it a bit too quick?

The latest in the 4.x series of the KDE Software Compilation is due to be released in early August 2010. With the first beta of this release recently unleashed, I thought I'd download the openSuse packages and see what 4.5's got in store for us.

I've finally set up a VirtualBox session for KDE 4.1 development with Qt 4.4 installed, so I've been able to have a quick play with the new QPrintDialog, and it's a huge improvement. Hopefully I'm not stealing anyones thunder here, but I thought we should have a quick peek.

A little new wave of GNU/Linux FUD requires or begs for some quick commentary

SCO's one motion in limine [PDF] it has filed so far is a remarkable one. It would like the court to order Novell, its representatives and its witnesses not to speak about the IBM litigation or any commentary about it to the jury. "Commentary" would be us Groklaw chickens and, SCO claims, "other similar websites".

So far there have been six alpha releases of the forthcoming Ubuntu 9.04, due for final release next month, and late yesterday the one and only beta release was made available for download. From this point forward there's a release candidate in mid-April, before the final release is made on the 23rd.

Linux Mint Debian Edition, or LMDE, is the edition of Linux Mint based on Debian Testing. The latest release was made available for download on December 24, 2010. LMDE was announced as an alternate edition of Linux Mint in first week of September 2010. A review of that release was focused on the installation program.
