Mozilla has announced that its new Account Manager feature has graduated from being a Mozilla Labs project and that it will be included in a future release of its open source Firefox web browser

Last month Mozilla Labs announced a new concept series on online identity. As part of this exploration, we developed the Account Manager. The Account Manager makes it incredibly easy for users to create new accounts with optional randomly generated passwords, and log into and out of them with just a click.

Mozilla has confirmed that version 3.0 of its popular open source Firefox web browser is approaching its end-of-life (EOL). According to the Mozilla developer's weekly meeting notes, there will be no more updates for Firefox 3.0.x following the release of version 3.0.19, the last security and stability update to the 3.0.x branch.

Mozilla has confirmed that the next major upgrade to its open source browser will be known as Firefox 4.0.

Mozilla has been forced to justify its decision to herd third party coders, whose add-ons sometimes break the Firefox user interface, away form the browser's components directory. In a meaty blog post on Saturday, the open source browser maker’s development boss, Mike Connor, explained the rationale behind Mozilla’s move to debut a "lockdown" feature in Firefox 3.6.

"[...]it's official: while Firefox 3 boasts some great new features like a smart address bar and better bookmarks manager, the best reason to upgrade will be for the performance improvements. Firefox 3 is noticeably faster and more stable than Firefox 2 to the casual user and Mozilla engineers have numbers that show it will be the fastest browser on the market."

Firefox for Mobile (codenamed Fennec) is the name of the build of the Mozilla Firefox web browser for smaller non-PC devices, mobile phones and PDAs. Firefox for mobile 1.0 uses the same version of the Gecko layout engine as Firefox 3.6.
