The beta version of Moonlight 1.0 is now available to download as a Firefox plug-in. The application, is the Linux version of Microsoft's rival to Flash, Silverlight. It makes it possible to play files such as WMV files under Linux. Novell has been granted access to Microsoft specifications and to multimedia codecs and test tools for the project. It was originally announced at the second anniversary of its interoperability agreement with Microsoft.

Don't use it!
To all newcomers to the Free Software Community that don't already know about this M$-designed Free Software poison - don't use any application with mono included in the dependencies. This is a Microsoft trap!
If you've recently fled from the M$ lock-in, mono is designed to assert that lock-in over Free Software and you'll end up back at square one.
Avoid Novell products like the plague. Novell is owned by M$ and helps to attempt the destruction of Free Software. Check all Gnome applications very carefully, because they have become carriers of this M$ disease as well.
Don't use mono for any reason!

You're nothing more than a FUD slinger.
False: "Novell is owned by M$"
Unsubstantiated: "This is a Microsoft trap!"
Unsubstantiated: "Avoid Novell products like the plague."
Unsubstantiated: "Don't use mono for any reason!"
Sensationalization: Mono is a "M$ disease"

Snippity, eh?
Mate, I've seen that picture of Ballmer, whispering sweet nothings in Hovesepian's ear, that they've got at Boycott Novell;
http://boycottnovell.com/2008/12/03/beware-the-mono/
When Ballmer gets that look in his eye, he owns you, body and soul.
Could Novell have financially survived without the M$ sellout: probably not.
Can Novell financially survive, in the current economic climate, without heavy Microsoft financial support: certainly not.
Ballmer's already got you lot: signed, sealed, and delivered.
Microsoft's traps, set against Free Software, are hardly, "unsubstantiated", they are Standard Operating Procedure.
Mate, my advice to;
"Avoid Novell products like the plague."
isn't "Unsubstantiated", it's jolly good advice to anyone who entertains the slightest respect for the principles involved with Free Software.
A quick glance at the Wikipedia entry for, Novell;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novell
reveals an organisation which might well value financial gain far ahead of any matter of principle.
My claim against the M$-menace, involved with mono, is based upon a long-term pattern of aggression, displayed by the M$ Corporation, against the Free Software Community.

In the long history of
In the long history of attacks against free software by Microsoft, the only use of patents by MS is when Steve Ballmer made vague claims that "Linux infringes on Microsoft's property". There have been no lawsuits by Microsoft to this date relating to the free software community and patents held by Microsoft.
As for Mono, do you not know of Novell's work to knowingly avoid certain types of code covered by patent law that could harm the Mono project? http://www.mono-project.com/FAQ:_Licensing#Patents
Other than OOXML and the allegations of Mono, is there any other patent related attacks by Microsoft to the free software community?
