Unlike Ubuntu & Fedora, OpenSuse is released every 8 months. This means that they are always usually trailing Ubuntu, Fedora etc with the new Gnome, KDE. I personally prefer Gnome and even though KDE is the default option at install.

The last time OpenSUSE users enjoyed a stable release was in November 2009 making today’s release of OpenSUSE 11.3 a pretty big deal. This is the first release in the new eight month release schedule for OpenSUSE. I popped the old disk in the drive and waited for the skinned bootloader to load up. Well I say that like it took a while, but it really didn’t. I selected the option to boot into Mandriva Live.

I recently put a brand new desktop system together in order to get better performance with some of the FPS games I like to play. Of course the first thing I did was install openSUSE 11.2. A few weeks ago, the OpenSUSE Project announced the release of OpenSUSE 11.0, the "community" edition of SUSE Linux, Novell's commercial Linux distribution. SUSE Linux was one of my very first distros; I used to buy it from CompUSA and other places back when I first got started with Linux. These days, of course, one can simply use openSUSE instead of buying it at a store. This week I decided to look at openSUSE 11.3, the latest and greatest version.

Recent “zypper update” on November’s openSUSE 11.2 release brought system to the most recent status. Current 2.6.31.8-xen kernel works fine.Seems like a next generation of xen-ified aka Suse kernels is on the go right now. However, i believe,that vm-install on recently updated 11.2 works same way as before maintenance update.
