Finally, after almost two years in the making, the latest version of PCLinuxOS has been unleashed. Although released without much fanfare, I was excited enough to download PCLinuxOS 2009 immediately after it is available.

Don't count out PCLinuxOS just yet. The Ripper Gang announced today the release of the third public beta of PCLinuxOS 2009.

Not too long ago PCLinuxOS released two versions of the PCLOS 2009 distribution. One uses KDE 3.5, the Other uses Gnome 2.24.3. So, I was faced with a decision. Which would I choose?

In 2007 as one of our first Linux distro reviews, we took a peak at PcLinuxOS 2007 (aka PCLOS) and found it at the time to be a stellar product for it's time, stable, clean, easy to use and enjoyable. Will 2009 still retain it's former glory, or has the new version ended up as a fizzling dud?
