The PCLinuxOS 2009.2 MiniMe KDE Linux distribution is out and available for download. This release includes a minimal classic KDE 3.5.10 desktop and few extra applications.

The PCLinuxOS Minime Wiki says that
The aim was to make a MiniMe iso that is a very basic KDE desktop cd without additional applications. It is designed for advanced users or for users who wish to learn how to customize their system with the applications and support files they want to use.

PCLinuxOS is a (Linux) distribution that was derived from Mandriva Linux. It is a rolling release distribution, and the project makes installation images available for all major desktop environments.

For the last few months my Thinkpad has been, and still is, the host of several wonderful Linux distributions, all of them based on the new KDE 4 desktop environment. So, today, in mid summer 2009, is there still a reason to run a KDE 3 desktop? Well, if it wasn’t for PCLinuxOS I would have to say no.

PCLinuxOS was the perfect distribution in 2007. It had all the bells and whistles to be an excellent Windows XP alternative. Here the the things I loved about PCLinuxOS.

"Here is a little MiniMe 2008 (296mb) you can play with and customize the way you want. Comes with 2.6.22.15 kernel, Alsa 1.0.15 and a very basic KDE 3.5.8 desktop. This is a minimal LiveCD that is bootable, plus it can be installed. The Fit-PC2 is the world’s smallest fully functional desktop PC. It’s about 1/4 the volume of a Mac Mini, and it still has all the necessary connections and features to be used as a home or office computer.
