In the past Ive been unimpressed by native, locally installed Twitter apps, so it was with a little hesitance I checked out Turpial.

TTYtter is a console console Twitter client. It's not an application but a python script that allows you to use Twitter just like any advanced Twitter client, but within a terminal. And it's not just for posting tweets, but has advanced options like any other well-known Twitter desktop client.

Hotot is a lightweight, python-based, desktop twitter client I tried on my Linux Mint 10 GNOME desktop. I found Hotot to include many features you’d expect in a desktop client and a few you may not.

Twitter is preparing to launch several impressive new features, including a new streaming API that will give desktop client applications real-time access to the user's message timeline. The new streaming API was announced last week at Twitter's Chirp conference, where it was made available to conference attendees on-site for some preliminary experimentation.
