Sorbet is another proposed theme for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. Ubuntu derived theme with subtle gradients and lighter colors based on a loose interpretation of the new look of Ubuntu\'s Single Sign On. Metacity buttons based on the phenomenal Homosapien theme
I'd like to ask the Ubuntu developer community to consider freeing up valuable CD space by removing Compiz and just using Mutter (Metacity 3) compositing in the default installation for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx.
As some people like dark themes and some people like bright themes, why not combine them into one set of matching themes with different shades? This is an idea for a Metacity theme that is based on the idea of having the sun shine into your windows.
Warmth uses a blend of light and dark colors to draw the eye to the content of applications. The toolbars and menubars are dark, while the body of the application is light. It feels like a combination of the New Wave and Dust Sand themes and the Metacity reminds me of Homosapien.
Yes! guys and gals, our beloved window manager is kicking ass in composite land. There’s a new branch on metacity subversion were developers are working on composite features for metacity. So far we have, transparency, shadow and ALT+tab Godness, and now that I’m running a composite WM i can use the nice MAC OS X like dock bar, AWN. All this without the lag (and CPU masacre) introduced in compiz-fusion when scrolling applications.
Peter told you how to quickly set desktop effects in KDE with the press of a button if you’re using KWin. A similar trick is available for GNOME’s Metacity.
Why you would want to do that? Because it uses less resources and it may run better for old or incompatible video cards (including Intel). You don’t even need accelerated graphics to run Metacity with compositing and it even works well inside VirtualBox.
