Dear all, we have already had several articles on Linux gaming, including three chapters on First Person Shooters (FPS) covering eight games and two massive compilations containing tens of great titles. For today, I have prepared another interesting collection, with a bit of everything.

Linux might not have as much games as Windows (or game consoles) but people enjoying this wonderful open source operating system can have fun with games too, as there are a lot of free games for Linux available, even some huge commercial ones. Even Linux games are a niche market, Linux gaming has got a pretty colorful history so far. So what’s the state of Linux gaming?

Linux games, nearing 70 titles reviewed and another 20-25 planned, not counting this one. It's not all in the numbers, of course, but trying a hundred games can take time. Your time. And hopefully, you will enjoy some, if not all of them. Linux has lots of fun to offer; you just need to embrace it.

Today, I'm going to discuss the interesting phenomena, rise and fall of companies, games, technologies, and other cool stuff, all related to Linux gaming. So, this is not exactly a review, but we will definitely talk about the hot cakes in the gaming oven.

Linux users deserve gaming love too. Linux users are often given the cold shoulder by gaming companies, and have to resort to running emulators to play most titles. There are however numerous examples of successful mainstream titles that have found a happy home with Linux gamers.

One of the most common complaints I hear about Linux is that it’s just no good for gaming. Some complain about hardware support, others the lack of titles, others that it’s just too complicated. It’s true that Linux probably isn’t the first platform that comes to mind when I think about PC gaming, but some parts of that reputation are inaccurate or outdated.

The many thousands of free games available for Linux has made it difficult to select which ones deserve a special mention. For this article, our objective is not to necessarily select games which have flawless graphics and sound, but instead to identify games which are highly addictive and have great playability.
