Many computer users are interested in trying out Linux without having to forgo operating systems from Microsoft at the same time. The simplest way to do this is though what are known as "live distributions." These are Linux systems that can be started directly from a CD or DVD. A more complex way of achieving the same effect is by actually adding a parallel installation of Linux onto the hard drive.
