I’ve had persistent issues with Intel Video since the Jaunty release of Ubuntu. The short version is that the fancy effects that I eventually came to depend on stopped working after the Intrepid release of the distribution. Both Jaunty and Karmic include Intel video drivers – and I’ve tried every bleeding edge PPA version I can find – that simply don’t work with Compiz.

I've upgraded ever since Gutsy: to Hardy, Intrepid and Jaunty. But this time, I did a fresh install of Karmic Koala, given the new Grub, ext4 and so on. Here are some things (bugs I mean - with potential fixes) I've experienced running Ubuntu Karmic Koala as my main OS (for about 2 days now):

There have been proposed quite a few themes for Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 and if you want to install them all in Ubuntu Jaunty for instance, you can just do:

sudo apt-get install community-themes

One of the big bugs (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/433972) on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic koala is the slow Internet connexion, i have a connexion of 25Mo/s and even that it take too long to load a page

It's not like I actually did anything, but my issues regarding my Toshiba Satellite 1100-S101 laptop from the long-ago year 2001 and its Intel 82830 (aka 830m) video not working all that well in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) have mostly disappeared.

On Saturday Oct 10, 2009, version 1.6.5 of git was released. This version is currently available in my repository for both Jaunty and Karmic.

Ubuntu’s notification system will see several improvements and changes for it’s inclusion in Karmic. The most notable and obvious of these is will be its appearance. The large rectangular pop-up’s of Jaunty are replaced with a sleeker smaller bubble.

The final release version of Ubuntu 9.10, codenamed "Karmic Koala" won't come out until the end of the month but already tons of people are testing the development version, which is currently in Beta.

Improvements in the new Ubuntu Karmic koala includes updated splash screen, login window, latest Gnome 2.28 and many more. Here is a quick list of improvements that you need to know about the Karmic release.
