Firebird 3.0 is now uploaded and accepted into official Debian experimental repository (this is the first upload so things will break also you must backup database from 2.5 and restore into 3.0)

The unofficial third party repository Debian Multimedia stopped using the domain debian-multimedia.org some months ago. The domain expired and it is now registered again by someone unknown to Debian. If you're still using this repository, then that unknown party has full access to your Debian system!

As a real Debian unstable addict, for a long time, I wanted to have real time notifications when upstream repository updates. So I can immediately check what's new and, time permitted, do the upgrade right away.

Debian Lenny comes by default with OpenOffice 2.6.4, but in the meantime OpenOffice 3.1 was released. You can easily install it on your Debian box by using the Debian Lenny backports repository, which is a repository including newer versions of applications than the ones which come by default with Lenny. Apt-p2p gives you the ability to download Debian packages via a peer-to-peer protocol. Apt-p2p will try to get the packages from peers before it resorts to pulling them from the repository. The most recent version of Spice-Gtk-0.7 coming from Debian Unstable doesn't support GObject-introspection. Original version ([1]) is not supposed to install files like *.gir and *.typelib. A common question is how to compare Fedora [1] and Debian [2] in terms of recent updates and support. I think that Fedora Rawhide and Debian/Unstable are fairly equivalent in this regard, new upstream releases get packaged quickly, and support is minimal. They are both aimed at developers only, but it seems that a reasonable number of people are running servers on Debian/Unstable.

Mozilla needs to make an official repository for Ubuntu. It can support Debian and all the other DEB-based systems too (that would be awesome), but it NEEDS to be primarily aimed at Ubuntu.
