Whenever you click a http:// or mailto: link in KDE, by default, Konqueror and KMail will open. I’m not saying these are bad apps, just that if you have Firefox and Thunderbird installed, why wouldn’t you want to use them fully?

Among desktop Mail clients, Mozilla Thunderbird is still a popular choice. Thunderbird unites many advantages, including the flexibility we all know from Firefox. One of the greatest joys for me is customizing Thunderbird’s look and feel.

One large them of responses to the Thunderbird post is the question: Why can't Thunderbird and Firefox both prosper in the same development organization? Since there is money, what's the problem?

A whopping two years at its second major release, Mozilla's popular desktop email client Thunderbird is now available as the new and improved Thunderbird 3.0, and there's a lot to love in the new Thunderbird.

HTML5 and Flash have been used to great effect in recreating traditional desktop apps that can be run through your web browser. Google is so confident that web apps can replace your desktop apps that it has released the ChromeOS, which is not much more than the Chrome web browser presented as a desktop operating system.

As with Firefox, you can extend Thunderbird's functionality by installing extensions. Mozilla's official extension repository has quite a few nifty tools on offer, and which ones you choose to install depends entirely on your needs. There are, however, a few extensions that you might find indispensable no matter how you use Thunderbird.
