GoboLinux is a distribution which sports a different file system structure than 'ordinary' Linux distributions. In order to remain compatible with the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, symbolic links are used to map the GoboLinux tree to standard UNIX directories.

As the development team over there at GoboLinux works away on making an up-to-date CD-ROM ISO image, I figured I would revisit the distribution. For those of you who are unaware, GoboLinux is a distribution that does things quite a bit differently from others.

Linpus Lite is the distribution for netbooks and smartbooks developed and maintained by Linpus Technologies, Inc. of Taipei, Taiwan. The company’s flagship Linux distribution used to be Linpus Desktop until it decided to focus on the Lite and QuickOS line.

Recently, I tried Ubuntu 10.04 and I was impressed. Then the system locked up. I downloaded openSUSE. I installed Fedora. Same thing. I installed Debian, Mandriva, Sabayon, MEPIS, Pardus, and GoboLinux and all of the experiences were rather similar. Then it clicked.

On occasion I have a need for a tiny, lightning fast Linux distribution to boot into in order to check various issues on a machine. Either that or I just don’t want to monkey around with someone else’ data. Either way, I will often grab for either a CD or flash drive containing my favorite “micro” distribution, Puppy Linux.

I have decided my life isn't interesting enough, so to make it more interesting I've decided to create Yet Another Linux Distribution (YALD). This YALD will have the name ... drum roll please ...

Momonga is a Linux distribution based on Fedora. It is a community-developed distribution with roots in Japan (the name is derived from a species of flying squirrel found in Europe and parts of Asia). Like Fedora, it is a multi-purpose distribution, a Free distribution, with a script that makes it easy to build and install non-free applications.
