Really I guess Linus doesn't see the Linux development model as being very unique in the open source world, even though it is. Or maybe Linus is a bit like the Douglas Adam character who considers his house the "outside of the insane asylum" and the rest of the world the "insane asylum" - we're all just crazy.

More evidence that Linus can't
More evidence that Linus can't be trusted. Developers should join the Hurd.

Can't be trusted... as a leader
Can't be trusted... as a leader of the community.
He isn't a leader; he is just a (very, very good) kernel developer. His opinions on politics and licensing often show a lack of understanding. His opinion on Git shows that he can't perceive that perspectives other than his own exist and that there are variables he is unaware of from his own perspective (which could be said to be true about his opinions on licensing too).
However, Torvalds himself is not the problem; he, like everyone else, is entitled to his opinions. The problem is the community's misperception that he is a leader and that the community, therefore, puts too much importance/faith in his opinions. And now everyone seems to think that his opinions on everything IT-related matter... and they don't. Well, not to the extent that everyone seems to think they matter.
If you want extremely well thought out opinions on free software related politics/philosophy go to RMS. If you want extremely well-informed opinions on free software related licensing/laws go to Eben Moeglen, Pamela Jones or RMS. In fact, if you want opinions about anything other than Linux kernel development, whatever you do, don't go to Linus. It's just not his area of expertise.
Of course this is only IMHO.
