Terry Burton’s Barcode Writer in Pure PostScript is a fast and flexible barcode generating tool in its own right. BWIPP is a collection of barcode generation functions written in PostScript itself, which can be directly embedded in final PostScript output, sent directly to a printer, or interpreted by a PostScript tool like Ghostscript and turned into an image.

This first release, codenamed ‘Betta splendens’, includes just a handful of features for now, however it is the base on which development of more advanced features will take place. Still, the goal of NeonView is to remain clean and lightweight, while also trying to implement only the needed functions that a simple image viewer should have.

Sun has released a new open-source project as part of SwingLabs: PDF Renderer, "a 100% Java PDF Renderer and Viewer." PDF Renderer can parse the Portable Document Format (PDF) from a file and display it, as an AWT image, in a panel, or using any Graphics2D implementation. It has been released under the LGPL license
