Download management is one of the larger categories on the Firefox Add-ons site, but while hundreds of extensions fall under this category, they are a mixed lot at best. Many have yet to release versions compatible with Firefox 3.0, and others are designed to work with Windows programs.

Mozilla has released an update to Firefox, its popular Web browser. The update is available for download either from the Firefox Web site or through Firefox itself, if you select "Check for Updates" from the Help menu.

Mozilla today released Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate 2, which you can download from Mozilla's Web site. Release Candidate 2 is the first version of Firefox 3.5 that average users might want to run, since it's faster and more stable than the beta versions were. Firefox 3.5 boasts a number of significant changes.

Mozilla's big plan on Tuesday to set a world record for downloads with the newly released Firefox 3 browser hit a snag when its Web site would not work properly.

Firefox just passed the 400 million download mark, according to the Spread Firefox site for promoting the open-source, extendable Web browser.
