I guess you could use a screenlet or something similar to embed a terminal into your desktop, but I want to have it transparent, with no titlebar or border and basically to look like my wallpaper has a terminal. For that, i used Compiz and this is what it looks like:
Konsole is the X terminal emulator of KDE. I find having the terminal out of my way, but always open and easy to reach out to, very convenient. It also looks cool. ;) With KDE SC 4.3 you can easily achieve this with a few clicks without the need of any additional software.
Admit it. You enjoy using the command line in Linux. You only have a graphical interface so people in the office don't look at you strangely. So why not embed a terminal window into the Gnome desktop and have a soothing desktop picture and the power of the command line all at once?
Here is a sample code for using VTE Terminal Emulating widget. Vte terminal widget of GTK can be used to embed a terminal in your GTK program.
