When I first started using Ubuntu some 3 years ago, I found it really hard to get applications similar to the ones I used in Windows. After browsing for a long time, I made this amazing discovery. You don't have to look for "similar" apps, you can have even better apps here in Ubuntu/Linux.
Canonical has revealed a new Ubuntu TV concept as CES. The TV will have easy integration of broadcast, online services and applications and will also support a range of other devices like tablets and phones that can serve as second screen for content viewing.
Think you all knew this already, the c-korn/vlc ppa has been removed by the author himself. You can't live without PPAs in Ubuntu especially for most downloaded apps like VLC. Guys at LFFL have made a dedicated PPA for VLC. I just gave it a try and it worked awesome.

Ubuntu 10.04 codenamed Lucid Lynx is on the verge of its final descent. A lot of new things are coming your way. Ubuntu Artwork Pool in Flickr is buzzing with activity, so is the awesome Community Contributed Themes at Ubuntu Artwork Wiki page. But apart from these eye candy, in a more subtle way, a number of new applications are also in the pipeline. Let's explore these new comers.
So, why did I go back to Ubuntu? Why did I not stay on PCLinuxOS? Well, because KDE and GTK apps fought over control of Audio, and it forced me to use mostly GTK apps in a KDE environment. So, I wanted to go back to a GNOME distribution that offered great PulseAudio support, and something I haven’t tried yet.
A quick look at KDE-Apps.org reveals that new apps are added daily. I periodically browse through the latest KDE apps to see if anything stands out, and I found these five, some of which are in early development.
Ever so often, I take a stroll over to KDE-Apps.org and look at some of the fantastic creations people from the KDE community develop. There are a wide range of apps in nearly every category, but I have selected 5 that stand out and would be very useful additions to my desktop and hopefully yours too. All of these apps are either new or have been recently updated within the past few months.
