By rights, copyright really shouldn’t apply to binary executables, because they are purely “functional” (not “expressive”) works. The decision to extend copyright to binaries was an economically-motivated anomaly, and that choice has some counter-intuitive and detrimental side-effects.

As we approach the launch of Ubuntu 8.10, it's time to create space for future plans, and so I'm writing to introduce you to The Jaunty Jackalope. Jaunty, the code name for what will most likely become Ubuntu 9.04, will be the focus of our efforts from November through to April next year.

I’ve found it useful a number of times, and I have two three methods of finding out what the command actually is. If there are any Gnome devs reading this, could finding the properties be made simpler directly from the menu itself?

With the April 23 release date getting ever closer, I decided to test Alpha 4 of Ubuntu 9.04 - code-named Jaunty Jackalope -  to get a feel for the forthcoming operating system.

Due out tomorrow is the fifth alpha release for Ubuntu 9.04 (the Jaunty Jackalope). Ubuntu 9.04 is now in a feature freeze so there isn't much to expect in Jaunty Alpha 5, but there are a few items worth highlighting.
