In order for Foresight Linux to follow development trends more quickly, Michael Johnson (the founder of rPath and former head of Fedora) has proposed switching from rPath Linux to Fedora.

There was no announcement…no news posting…no clue dart thrown toward Foresight for this discontinuation. There was only a comment on a single bug in the rPath issue tracker just this past May…Formally discontinued…

"The third alpha of Foresight 2.0 has been released. Alpha 3 is available for download on rBuilder at http://www.rpath.org/rbuilder/project/foresight/release?id=5953 for both x86 and x86_64. Please be aware that rBuilder may be down for scheduled maintenance this weekend. This alpha release is not intended for every day use, but for testing and development of Foresight..."

Foresight is an rPath-based, desktop-oriented Linux distribution. It is a rolling release distribution, so there is no need for frequent releases associated with other distributions that do not have this feature. In fact, this release, Foresight 2.5.0, is the first major release since February 2009 when Foresight 2.1.0 was released.

Foresight Linux is a relatively new distribution based on rPath Linux and featuring the latest Gnome and freedesktop.org desktop. This review of Foresight's latest version, 1.4, will attempt to show the strengths of this distro and why not, give you a reason to try it next time you go distro hopping!

Last week it was reported by LWN and a few other Linux news sites that Foresight Linux may employ a change of direction…that is, create a spinoff project that places the Conary package manager onto a Fedora Linux base.

rPath does a disservice to itself and to many others by assisting the company which openly attacks GNU/Linux, on which rPath's business is based

I have decided - after running Foresight for two months - to no longer use Foresight Linux on my systems. Let me say however that I found the experience interesting and dare I say - challenging.
