Late yesterday Anirudh Acharya, aka infra_red_dude, started a new support thread for the Mac4Lin Transformation Pack on the Ubuntu Forums. The old thread was moved to the archive section of the forums some time back and a couple weeks ago it had been locked so there was no good way to get assistance for it.

Yesterday while I was browsing Ubuntu Forums I came across a thread posted by someone named EssexJames. He recounts a recent experience with showing his 10 year old son Ubuntu:

OKAY, this is just not fair: [T]he ubuntu forums are “disappearing” threads that are critical of mono … and people seem perfectly alright with that. I spent a lot of time posting to a thread yesterday, only to come back on today to see it removed from the boards. Same thing on brainstorm with votes being “disappeared”.

Someone on the Ubuntu forums started an interesting thread today asking, "Can you manage to use only free software on your pc?"  It got me thinking about my dependency on proprietary software, and whether I'd ever really be able to get it out of my life entirely.

By default ubuntu-server does not come with any graphic desktop environment or GUI. Which is good, because it is server. However, sometimes it would be useful to have some GUI. It is not a problem to install it. Admins have quite a few options for GUIs. Here I will show only few of them.

I use UbutuTweak to help me set options in Ubuntu, including my GTK login splash. But while reading the latest posts on a thread in the Ubuntu Forums about installing Google Gadgets I came across a post that surprised me.
