The online mail-order DVD rental company Netflix launched an additional service a while back, whereby you can watch unlimited movies online. When I logged on to the Netflix site today, it offered a film about Linux. But you can’t watch it if you use Linux.

As long as I am using Kopete, sending messages, etc. everything is as it should be. No connection problems at all. As soon as I let the program go idle, it starts disconnecting every ten minutes, giving an Error 17 message, like clockwork. It always reconnects on it’s own, but as you can see from the screenshot, you could set your watch by when it disconnects from the Yahoo server.

What does using Linux mean to you? Do you simply use it because it works best for you? While at its heart Linux itself, is nothing more than a software kernel, to many people it is much more. Logwatch Error - Logwatch is a program that will parse your logs and send you an email every day about what has taken place on your server, a very friendly program. With Ubuntu I kept getting this error, though I checked, I could not find a solution so, as it looked like it was missing a location /var/cache/logwatch, I created one and it worked perfectly.

New Linux user often get this error. Let us say you haved downloaded the RPM file from net and saved to /tmp, you may get error - no no such file or directory - when the file is really downloaded and ls command can show the same.

Bash error messages, like so many error messages, can be more cryptic than helpful. But the good news is bash has a built-in mechanism for creating your own customized error messages, and you don't have to be an ace programmer to do it. Ubuntu and openSUSE already use this; Akkana Peck shows us how to do it ourselves.

After a recent O/S version upgrade (to openSUSE 11.2) I noticed that bash started being a bit more intelligent when I did something stupid: it started giving me a useful error message when I typed the name of a command that wasn't in my PATH but that was in an "sbin" directory. My reaction at the time was "huh, that's nice", but today I decided I needed a bit more information.
