Review of the most used terminal emulators for Linux. Konsole, Gnome Terminal, Yakuake, xterm and several more.

Terminal emulators, also called console or terminal applications, are programs which facilitate access to the shell, and usually offer user-friendly features like profiles, scrollback history, backgrounds and transparency effects, font configuration, tabs, mouse support and so on.

A terminal emulator is computer software which emulates a dumb video terminal within some other display architecture.

I work a lot at the console level, I even lauch some programs directly from there, and I know there are a lot of users like me.

Somtimes I also open two or even three terminals to monitor differente processes on the same machine or even on different PCs using ssh connection.

Every now and then, it's good to take a step back - all the way back, away from the glowing screens, away from the terminal emulators, all the way to the forest.

There is no need of a graphical utility to take the screen shot of your desktop, no need to wonder how.. Lets try it with your terminal. Terminal is a powertool and solution to all the problems in linux

The advantage of using commandline tool is that if you need to take a screenshot in an environment, where you cannot run a graphical screenshot utility prefer this method.

Since I have been thinking about building a Silverlight-based version of the Midnight Commander (OH NOES!) I figured I should share some thoughts that I had on this matter.

The linux terminal can get boring at times owing to lack of colors & a rigid black background. Hardcore Linux enthusiasts won’t think about the appearance of the terminal but normal users will surely get bored of the monochrome terminal sooner or later.
