GPL: The Google Public License

http://fossforce.com

Until a few years ago, hardly a day went by without an article being featured on Linux Today about how “the year of Linux” had arrived. Every Linux user with a blog was willing to bet, year after year, that this was finally going to be “the year of Linux.” This was going to be the year when the public got wise, quit paying the Microsoft tax and moved over to the obviously superior Linux.

Is the FLOSS Community Shooting Itself In the Foot?

http://g33q.co.za

Recently my blog attracted a lot of attention from readers who are more critical of FLOSS, and Linux in particular, than my regular readership. Naturally a long discussion erupted where critiques and defenses of various positions and opinions and how stuff works where flung to and fro.

We demand software freedom now

http://www.fsf.org

When computing began, software was freely shared amongst users. People were glad to create programs that others found useful and encouraged others to modify that software and share it freely. Now, most people consider software to be something that must not be shared and can only be modified by the original developer.

Free software for free systems

http://www.fsf.org

The wide variety of useful, free software programs that are now available is made possible by the contributions of thousands of volunteers from around the world. While many of these free programs are created to replace proprietary programs or to solve a developer's particular needs, each and every free program can be part of a greater goal -- the creation of a fully free software environment.

Back When Linux Was Fun

http://ubuntu-user.com

Somehow, somewhere along the way, I'm supposed to have matured and become serious about things. And so it is with Linux. It all started out in fun. I know. I've got Linus Torvalds' "Just for Fun" here on my bookshelf. Says so right there on the front cover. Fun. And it was fun. But as with anyone approaching adulthood, Linux was apparently not taking itself seriously enough.

GNU HURD: Altered visions and lost promise

http://www.h-online.com

The HURD was meant to be the true kernel at the heart of the GNU operating system. The promise behind the HURD was revolutionary – a set of daemons on top of a microkernel that was intended to surpass the performance of the monolithic kernels of traditional Unix systems and in doing so, give greater security, freedom and flexibility to the users – but it has yet to come down to earth.

Announcing the FOSS LGBT Launch.

http://fosslgbt.blogspot.com

Although still very much in its infancy, FOSS LGBT is my little pet project for the LGBT GNU/Linux and FOSS users to come out of the woodwork and band together to help maintain diversity any acceptance in the FOSS community. The goals are similar to the Ubuntu Women project.
