Martin Owens, the leader of the Ubuntu Massachusetts Local Community (LoCo) Team and general guru for things GNU/Linux, has published a delightful little book (currently in draft form) that explains the concept of Free and Open Source Software. Available in PDF form as well as in the SVG source files, the 22-page book should be part of every FOSS supporter’s library.

Every six months without fail, a new release of Ubuntu arrives, carrying a number of new features. At the moment, this is great. Ubuntu improves at an extremely impressive speed and, each time, the release is a little better.

I have heard every year predictions of each year being the year of the Linux desktop. I've got some bad news for you. It's not coming soon. Not this decade, probably not the next. The good news? We don't need a year of the Linux desktop.

It is very hard to study in most of institutes using only free software. Everything is sad and needs heavy reorganization to not to force students to use non-free software.
