Free culture projects need a ubiquitous funding system
The free culture movement, which is of a whole with the free software movement, has made a lot of great progress but is still struggling to prove itself to be economically viable in the mainstream. I might even go so far as to say that a lack of a better funding system is the single biggest thing holding back many existing and many more prospective free culture projects.

Open source could be Africa's technological solution
That major computing companies are unlikely to want to invest heavily in Africa is not lost on the continent's brain trust.Sure, there could be some investment in major cities, but for the most part, the continent's on its own. The Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa is fine with that.

Becoming a Fedora contributor
I became a Fedora contributor after experiencing what I felt was a highly polished distro and outstanding support from the Fedora user community. I had attempted to become a contributor for another distro, but the process required to do so ended up being so long and difficult that I just gave up and moved on.
