He's a popular guy, that maddog. And with good reason. It's a little surprising that there is nary a video of him speaking to be seen anywhere on the Web. So here you go, video-lovers and maddog fans. These videos are for you.

Call me a propeller head, but I recently found myself chuckling at a collection of Linux compile and configuration messages on a German site. How about this from a Gimp ./configure;

"...Stallman published articles to mark the 15th anniversary and the 20th anniversary, but we should start thinking a bit bigger for the 25th anniversary. This is the sort of thing that should be coverstory on a lot of computing magazines in September. This is going to be the biggest anniversary the free software movement has ever had to celebrate."

Free software has much to offer non-profit organizations (NGOs). If you are reading this, you are probably a member or participant of an NGO, and I hope I can show you why free software and open standards are important for your organisation. Or maybe you are a free software supporter who’d like to see a change in a social organisation near you. In any case, I will try to give you a few arguments in favour of free software, along with some practical information on how to successfully face a migration process from proprietary software.

You’ll have to find your partners stance on BSD first and see how they react to it. Possibly bring it up in conversation some how. On February 9, 1998, I published the Open Source Definition and the public announcement of the Open Source Initiative that Eric Raymond and I were starting. This was the first time that the general public heard what Open Source was about. Friday, February 8 is the last day of Decade Zero of Open Source. Saturday, February 9 is the anniversary of Open Source and the start of Decade One. It's a computer scientist thing. We always start counting from zero :-)
