We are currently in one of the best situations ever to think about moving to open source and Linux on the desktop. With Windows XP’s end of life, many companies are already considering upgrading to Windows Vista or 7. The user interface has changed, and many existing applications aren’t compatible. I am currently reviewing a list of hundreds of applications for compatibility with Windows 7 to decide what will have to be upgraded or replaced. What is missing or needs improvement on Linux from an I.T. perspective?

People Don't Care

Neither Linux nor Open Source will ever "dethrone" Microsoft's current userbase (and thus, become the keeper of the throne). Microsoft's userbase must first reject Microsoft's software then secondly, this userbase must adopt our free systems. Both these events not happen because of two main reasons:
1. Most people are amoral to the ethics of proprietary software. This amorality will lead most people to seek out powerful and convenient software that may or may not be F/OSS.

2. Many people are just unwilling to convert their Microsoft systems over to our free systems. Possible reasons for this include laziness, unwillingness to pay the short term investment cost, fear of the unknown/fear of change and dissatisfaction about our free systems.

Re: People Don't Care

Yep! Fully agree with you!!! There is no such problem as user-unfriendlyness, bad proprietary software (Wine emulation) support and so on. The main problem is exactly the people: people who just simply "lazy, unwilling to pay the short term investment cost, fears of the unknown/fear of change and dissatisfaction"! And they are all blind for that.
