As a mentioned in my previous post I spent a little time last night installing PCLINUXOS on my laptop. Other than my machine at work most of my computer time is spent on this laptop and dealing with Ubuntu Hardy Heron was starting to take its toll on me.

The last time I followed a distribution’s suggestion to remove some packages that were no longer needed, I completely hosed the system. Could not use it afterwards. Though the machine was a test machine, the experience thought me to always let sleeping dogs lie.

My trusty desktop, the PC I spent more time with than any other machine in the house, failed. It was time to replace it. My natural impatience and need to be up and running again led me to buy a new box that day, but even before I had it home I was beginning to wonder: what Linux should I use on it?

Some time after Linux netbook started appearing, it became obvious that there was a problem. Every time a new manufacturer gets in to the business, they try to build a completely custom Linux system that is "easier." It is impressive the number of times this has been attempted and how many times it has horribly and completely failed at the goal of making things "easier."

I started posting to Twitter just over a year ago after many close friends spent concerted effort trying to convince me (and many others) to join. My first post was “Is this more than a fad?”, a thought most new Twitter users have (Note: It’s no fad - Twitter has resonated with many people and site traffic is staggering).

"Someone asked me recently what I thought about about Django. I really like it, but I didn’t have an answer ready and completely bombed at answering that question. I ended up muttering a very profound, “Django is cool”. I truthfully stumbled upon Django, played with it a while, and spent the next 10 months writing a web app.

When Slackware 13 came a few months ago on the LXF magazine, I decided to throw it into Virtualbox to see how it has changed. One difference this time around is that I now have the dual core machine so I am running Slackware on that machine.

After installing Ubuntu 10.04, I realized that I was going to really miss my flying games. In an attempt to passify myself I downloaded and installed FlightGear, which is entirely free and I must admit it is pretty incredible.
