The first public step towards the release of Fedora 17, code-named Beefy Miracle, was taken yesterday with the release of Fedora 17 alpha.

Fedora fans are encouraged to download, install and report bugs to the Fedora QA team. From the test installation of this alpha release that I have made, bug hunters will be very busy. I know I will be.

There has not been a new development release of Fedora 12 since the Constantine Alpha release back in August. However, the second and last development release, Fedora 12 Beta, is set to be released next week. It has been delayed a few times already, but Fedora 12 Beta packs all of the features that are to be found in Fedora 12 with the final development freeze already in effect.

As John posted last night, Fedora 14 Alpha was declared ready for release next week. Although there was a one-week slip to handle the fact that our blocker list wasn’t clear, Fedora developers and testers in the community have worked hard together both to resolve the remaining issues and make sure that our Alpha would pass the release criteria.

GNOME Software is a Fedora project, so I don’t think it is available on any other distribution at this stage. It’s definitely not available on pre-release editions of Ubuntu GNOME 13.10. Here are some screen shot of it, which I took from a test installation of Fedora 20 alpha.
