In the last 6 months I have installed
In the last 6 months I have installed linux on a number of machines for friends and contacts. I have even been the cause of some of these users purchasing -windows- PCs from Dell because I am now actively supporting dell because it is supporting consumer linux. It just so happens that the machines immediately became dual boot with linux as default.
None of these 7 installs nor the five apparent windows purchases will appear in obvious linux user metrics anytime soon. Although the security updates from the relevant linux distro will be counting someway I expect.
In the previous 6 months, I did one install for a friend. and before that, none.
My point is that linux is gaining ground on a popular front, not necessarily in a visible business activity with 'jobs', although that also may be a factor.
