Hello to everyone in this community, I will like to make a suggestion, I will like to see more "original and different" news and articles on
fsdaily, at least a 25% of them should be wrote by the users

Many times I have experienced windows system administrators who just didn't care about Linux.
These people are not against Linux, they just don't have very much of an opinion about it.

If I try to convince someone like that, I can take my whole live just trying to convince them to even try it.
But I found a way to make them experience Linux.

I think of this question again and again. For one because because people are asking me. People who love Debian, people who dislike continuous compilation.

The good news is that people are increasingly aware and interested in Linux. The bad news is that there are still a number of big obstacles preventing people from being able to switch to the OS.

One of the aspects of migrating to Linux that puts many people off giving it a try is the idea of having to leave behind tried and trusted Windows applications and having to make the switch to something else.

Over the years I think I helped to influence few people here and there to actually start experimenting with linux. I count that as a personal success. I’m sure I was not the primary influence in most cases, but I’m glad I could help people to start tinker with the new OS. Note that I didn’t say switch. I do have an issue with this whole switch mentality. People say “I have switched to Linux” or “I have switched to Mac” and I can’t help but roll my eyes.

More and more people are discovering free software. Many people only do so after weeks, or even months, of using it. I wonder, for example, how many Firefox users actually know how free Firefox really is—many of them realise that you can get it for free, but find it hard to believe that anybody can modify it and even redistribute it legally.

When switching, or planning to switch to Linux, most people find it hard to understand the new or technical terms that come with using Linux. Here is a list of 10 terms you probably should know.
