We’ve turned off comments on the original post; there were about 200 already and there’s only so much that can be said before people stop adding anything new. I wanted to let you know that I received a private response from Mark Shuttleworth, in which he says that he has no intention of apologising for his comment.

I recently replied to some comments on LinuxToday regarding PCLOS as a replacement for windows and I made a remark that’s really got me thinking. The remark was regarding the impartment of knowledge to what Linux is and what applications users’ can run and do with it.

The title of this post occurred to me when I read the post Our Linux Dream. Somehow, even though people get the idea that specialized fields require some experience in that field before you can say anything intelligent about it, people hear the word “Linux” for the first time, Google it long enough to see Tux the penguin, and go “OK, I’m qualified now.” To go through that list of Linux-dream items one by one…

Sometimes I get the feeling that Web 2.0 is just too fancy for Linux, loads of tools, websites, and apps are being developed without taking Linux users into consideration. Despite the fact that the number of people using Linux is comparable to the people using Mac OSX if not more.

There are a lot of people still stuck with Windows because it’s the ‘easier alternative’. Linux is both cheaper and more versatile than Microsoft’s operating system, but the learning curve has frightened off many people.

Linus Torvalds is remarkable, not only for being the technical genius who wrote Linux, but for then being able to inspire and lead an enormous team of people to devote their free time to work on the operating system and bring it to maturity. We sent Richard Morris off to interview Linus, and find out more.

We must learn to research further when someone writes something like 3 reasons why we should not use Linux. Many people already responded to the post and have told the blogger the things that debunk his/her arguments. The blogger was too general about his/her comments about Linux.

This is a topic that is quite easy and doesn't need much explanation but still many people manage to mess it up. Not going into a hyperbole, I'll get straight to the point...Basically, given any random number, if you take its modulus with a, you will obviously get a number between 0 and a -1.
