BANGALORE: The bustling, overcrowded gullies of Sudarshan Layout’s slum settlement played host to a very high-profile visitor on Saturday afternoon. American software freedom activist, and founder of the GNU Project and Free Software Foundation Richard Matthew Stallman, fondly known as RMS, sat down to tea and interacted with children and volunteers at the Ambedkar Community Computing Centre.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A special talk by the founder of the free software movement, Richard Stallman, will lead the list of special programmes put together by the IT@School on the VICTERS channel on the occasion of the Software Freedom Day (SFD) on September 19.

On this day, 25 years ago, Richard Stallman created the Free Software Foundation. He had been the director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Artificial Intelligence Lab.

Richard M. Stallman is an American software freedom activist and computer programmer. In September 1983, he launched the GNU Project to create a free Unix-like operating system; he initiated the Free Software Movement; in October 1985 he founded the Free Software Foundation.
