I disagree with the gamer part.

I disagree with the gamer part. All we need is a killer game for linux, than people will start using linux just to play the game.

Umm... With so many Live CDs out

Umm... With so many Live CDs out there now, including ones that can install a complete linux system as a file on your Windows hard drive (see Dyne:Bolic), why is it that a game company can't develop a Linux game and distribute it as a bootable CD that can be optionally installed?

Food for thought...

I think the argument the companies

I think the argument the companies will give is that it's less "why can't they" as "why should they".
For them the market (i.e. the money) is with the Windows users. They have a team already developing for that market and others markets (such as Mac and Free Software) just aren't a big enough pull.
What is required (but is unlikely to happen) is a game that a) is mind-blowingly brilliant b) has great marketing and c) is only available for GNU/Linux.
If we take consoles as an example they all push for the exclusive game that will draw people to their console - particularly at launch (Halo anyone?). Otherwise they go for some other hook which draws people (Wii for example). GNU/Linux as yet has neither and thus punters (and developers) will see no reason to change.
