“I am pleased to announce the younger sibling site, PCLinuxOS CN catering for Chinese users of PCLinuxOS. It’s main purpose is to provide Chinese users of PCLinuxOS a place they can be comfortable with in posting questions and problems with PCLinuxOS, a home for PCLinuxOS Chinese experts to help out, and a launchpad to any Chinese-related PCLinuxOS projects.

I originally intended this post to be a review of 2007 Final for PCLinuxOS. However, after finishing it up, I realized that posting a review wouldn’t have the desired effect of truly showing off PCLinuxOS to everyone. It would just be a “business as usual” type of post. So, I decided to do a analysis on what I feel sets PCLinuxOS apart from many Linux distributions.

I have a group of friends who visited me in campus, and Marvin S. Tan brought his elegant ASUS laptop with him. Whatever for? To install PCLinuxOS, of course.

The article I am writing is about PCLinuxOS, but probably is not very different for other Linux distributions. A few weeks ago I installed PCLinuxOS for the first time and was impressed by the ease of stabilizing my internet connection and the speed of installation. Since that first day PCLinuxOS managed to surprise me several other times.

The last time I looked at PCLinuxOS was version 0.92, which according to DistroWatch was about 3 years ago. I was asked to take a look at it again, so here I go.

This past weekend, I used one of our old desktop computers to install a copy of PCLinuxOS 2007. I took this updated system over to my parents house for them to try out as an alternative to their aging Windows XP system (I was about ready to re-load the OS on this one.)

It's been quite a while since the last update to PCLinuxOS back in 2007. While Ubuntu and other distros come out every 6 months, PCLinuxOS is considered a "rolling release distribution" that gets updated regularly as new stuff appears in the PCLinuxOS repository. So was it worth the wait?

While browsing pclinuxos repos I came across "http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.main". The version label "2010" in that ftp URL caught my attention.

"Good things just keep happening with PCLinuxOS. The month of May saw the much anticipated release of the PCLinuxOS OpenBox remaster. We also saw the first of the quarterly remasters released, with PCLinuxOS 2010."
