"Open source actually does not

"Open source actually does not matter at all when it comes to harnessing community contributions. Open source actually does not matter at all when it comes to harnessing community contributions. It’s not the open source, it’s the open APIs!" That's foolish. With only open APIs, the vendor is still in absolute control. Even if it is technically possible to add all desired functionality via APIs without performance degradation (very unlikely), the vendor is still in charge and can break the API or stop supporting the software anytime. And open APIs do nothing to ensure the software can be shared and improved.
