Some good points, some that are stretching credibility a little. Overall a thought provoking posting though.

So recently I have written a lot about how user-friendly Linux has become. Naturally the nay-sayers have spoken loudly and insisted that Linux is far, far behind Windows in the user-friendliness category. So, I decided I wanted to figure out a way to test this argument to see which operating system was, in fact, more user friendly.

ITWire has a rant disguised as an opinion piece titled OLPC: one bad idea per child by Sam Varghese.

I should let it be known I have written on the OLPC XO before. All of my articles have showered it with praise. My kid wants one, I wouldn't mind tinkering a bit with it myself. So it should come as no surprise how I feel about Sam's article. Although no real point was made, I will do my best to address his comments.

This article is one of the worst pieces of fud I have ever seen. It's not bad because it works. It's bad because it's so poorly thought out. The author's ignorance borders on mind boggling. Feel free to bury the story, but consider visiting the site and posting some feedback to the author. While I doubt he will care, anyone reading it will at least see the responses.

The article describes one particular problem the author encountered when running PHP as a standalone FastCGI process. The PHP process would after a certain number of requests stop responding altogether and this way cause all newly incoming requests to hang. The article does of course include a solution for the problems it mentions.

Last month distro-review ran an article titled 10 ways that Linux is outgrowing the stereotype and becoming the best OS. While I agreed with all 10 points in the article something just didn’t sit right with me. I bookmarked the article and gave it a good long think. My conclusion: the facts are correct but there are problems with both the premise and the goal of the article.

I came a cross a really interesting article today. Basically, the author’s points boil down to the idea that you need to be cutting edge (old school Mandrake), n00b friendly (easy to use and ultra-stable) , or appeal to a niche (old hardware, graphics users, etc) in order to create a successful Linux distribution.

I came across an Article on the relevance of Compiz-Fusion in Linux particularly in Ubuntu. The Author, Matt Hartley, has published two different articles Here and Here to emphasize the same thing. His main argument is that Compiz makes Linux Complicated. The Ubuntu GNOME looses its very foundations -- its simplicity.
