In the middle of comments from my last review of gOS, I had one person recommend I check out a new distro called Geubuntu. Well, as I was in the middle of playing with this Enlightenment package, named from its parent distro of Ubuntu, I saw a release stating that the name now was OpenGEU.

Today we'll be looking at SAM Linux 2007 test-1, a Linux distribution (also called a distro) from Germany. It is based on PCLinuxOS, featuring the Xfce4 window manager.
SAM Linux is a very ambitious undertaking, and one of those odd distros that falls somewhere in the middle of being a lightweight distro for slower machines, and a full-featured one for upscale computers.

It's all about bipartisanship and unity in this week's roll call for the Linux.com forums. Old distro and new distro coming together, peripheral and computer learning how to work as one, and, just as the framers intended, a run-off between several distinguished' absentee answer' questions.

I was hanging out in ##linux on Freenode this morning, willing to help anyone out who needed it, and I came smack into the middle of an argument about why Gentoo is the best distribution in the world, and Debian is the worst. As the conversation progressed, it was clear that the one running Gentoo had never touched a Debian system, or was even half-way familiar with its structure.

Zenwalk has always had the reputation as being a distro for the more seasoned Linux user, with the release of Zenwalk 6 Gnome, has this changed? Has this Slackware based distro taken the route of Ubuntu? Short answer – not really, but then why should it?

I have had many people email me about the best distro out there. The only answer I have for them is “depends on what you want to do”.

Linux Mint is one of the most popular Ubuntu based distro’s, possibly for the fact it brings something new to the table rather than just a different set of wallpapers. Its always been one of my favorite distros.

Yesterday, I had a good friend ask me What is the best Linux distribution to familiarize myself with Linux? This was not someone who is unfamiliar with technology, or UNIX for that matter, but someone who is one of us, which made the question difficult to answer.

What's free, looks like Mac OS X, just works and is actually Linux? The answer is gOS, which recently launched a new beta that builds on the distro's initial success and adds new tools like integrated Google Gadgets for Linux.
