When it comes to the big distros I tend to stick to the ones that are based on Debian. Apt just is simpler and faster to me than rpm. But since I reviewed Fedora 11 (or tried to, in any case), I thought I’d have a go at the other big two RPM distributions: OpenSuse and Mandriva.

If you have had trouble with the new Ubuntu 9.10 distribution, or you are a bit reluctant about it because of the numerous reports of problems circulating... or even if you are just becoming uneasy about the direction that Canonical is moving, then this could be a very good time to take a look at Mandriva Linux.

Already for some time, I experience some annoyances in Mandriva’s wifi configuration tools especially when moving my laptop from one to another location with a different wifi network where I connect to.

Let’s say that you want to dump Windows, but you don’t want to go to Mac? That leaves LINUX as your only option. But you’re scared about moving to LINUX as you’re not sure that it’s right for you. No problem, there’s a LINUX for you and It’s called Mandriva LINUX One. I tried this out a week ago and it is nothing short of amazing!

What is the the advantage of Mandriva above other distributions like Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and Fedora. I wrote down a couple of reasons why I use Mandriva on my desktop systems.

Mandriva 64 Linux Powerpack is one of four editions of the Linux desktop produced by Mandriva. Others are Mandriva Flash, Linux One and Mandriva Linux Free, both of which are free to download.. It also supports KDE 4.2, and GNOME 2.26. Mandriva Linux Powerpack is the commercial edition, and costs 49 EUR.
