When a new Linux stumbler decides on switching on to Linux for full-time, s/he is often marred by an array of negative thoughts which intercept his desires of doing things differently. I finally removed myself from all the Gentoo mailing lists. I did this with some sad thoughts. I had been using gentoo for almost 4 Years and it tough me quite a lot about Linux. I have said it myself and for me in my particular cases it is true. Linux "Just Works"... Yet for many out there it doesn't "Just Work". They install Linux, they want to do the same things that I do and they come up against a brick wall. Linux just doesn't work for them and they are not too shy about telling the world about it.

I tried, I really did. I read all the articles. I scoured the various forums for relevant posts. I was signed up for god only knows how many mailing lists. I finally had to let it go.

One of good things said about OS X is that OS X works out of the box. But it doesn't work out of the box on any hardware - it works out of the box *on mac hardware*. I believe same can be just as well said about Linux.
