This article misses the point entirely.
First, he assumes everything in life is regulated by capitalism. Secondly, he ignores the environment in which the OLPC is to be deployed-- in rural areas, to kids who will carry them around with them.
Instead, he touts his own company's products, thin-computing devices and back-end servers. These things are fine for enterprise environments (and not just third-world countries). But they don't fit the same needs as the OLPC and other projects.
Also, the OLPC is not "struggling to break $200." It was $175 in April of this year, and the price will fall as production increases.
That, at least, is governed by economics.

I agree, the author obviously wants
I agree, the author obviously wants to promote his own products.
Again the author doesn't understand the environment or culture of the target markets.
